The 2020 model of the Porsche 911, known to Porsche aficionados as the 922, came onto Sarasota car dealership lots in the summer of 2019, and this generation of Porsche brings changes on par with changes that have occurred in previous generations.

So what exactly are these changes? Read on to find out more.

Everyone wants to know the general specs of a new car. Here they are for the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S/4S:

  • Base Price: $114,550-!131,850

  • Transmission: 8-speed dual-clutch automatic equipped with manual shifting mode

  • Engine Type: Twin-turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 24-valve flat-6 with aluminum block and heads and direct fuel injection

  • Power and torque: 443 hp at 6500 rpm and 390 lb-ft at 2300 rpm

  • Zero to 60 mph: 3.1 seconds

  • Top Speed: 190 mph

  • Fuel Economy: 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined

The 992 generation of Porsche 911s has a wider stance than its predecessors. This wide stance helps with stability and allows the nose to bite into corners more aggressively.

With the base package, the springs on the 922 generation are 15% stiffer than on the old 911s and 14% firmer. The Sport package features a half-inch drop on the body and even firmer and stiffer springs, with the stiffer springs in the back. The springs are moderated by newly developed dampers that react to every movement much more quickly than their predecessors.

Four wheel steering is an option that continues to be offered and lends itself to a front end that feels alive. The steering is electrically assisted and is 11% quicker in responsiveness than the standard car. The 922 generation features perfect precision and feedback, with an improvement on grip and stability over the older generations. Despite the increased width of this generation, the improvements to the steering system and chassis allow the 992 generation to "drive small".

One major change in the 922 generation is the rear-engine mounts that are placed on the engines sides, as opposed to behind the engine, as in previous models. This allows for significantly better control. The new turbocharger features a larger turbine and the left and right turbos are mirror images of each other, with wheels spinning in opposite directions. This reduces turbo lag and ensures that the exhaust from each bank of cylinders travels along the same path.

Intercoolers in the engine block are also 14% larger than in previous generations and are placed above the muffler, as opposed to the behind the rear wheels, as in previous models.

The interior features a 10.9-inch touch screen that can also be seen in the Panamera and the Macan. The cabin is slightly larger, but as is typical in a Porsche, the rear seats are quite small. The classic five-gauge cluster is still alive and well in the 922 generation, but only the tachometer continues to be a mechanical dial. The center console features touch-sensitive areas with haptic feedback as opposed to mechanical buttons. The shifter is low-profile and placed adjacent to the five toggle buttons that control stability, hazard lights, and any package-specific features that you may have opted for.
