It's much more of a race car than a road car, what with its swan-neck supports for the rear wing, and oodles of vents and channels; it's a wonder air doesn't get lost inside. It certainly had me a tad nervous as I was to take it out around the famed Monza circuit, even after having driven several laps in some cars that actually made more power. Those cars included the new BMW M5, and the GT3's more mellow sibling, the Carrera 4 GTS. My strategy for the day was to get familiar with Monza with these softer machines before tackling it with the GT3 RS. I'm glad I worked my way up. It's not because the GT3 RS is some scary monster that demands skill and respect - it's because I was able to appreciate both how rewarding the car is to drive, and how approachable and easy it is to hustle. It's the combination that will have you wanting to lap your local track all day long without fear of being worn out and beaten up. It's your best track-day friend. For now, the 911 GT3 RS is the peak of 911 track cars. It has the most aggressive aerodynamic package of any 911, and, like all GT3 variants, it has rear-wheel drive and the last naturally aspirated flat-six in the 911 line-up. It's perfect as a turn-key toy: It has a sonorous engine; the chassis is as sorted as you can get; it's comfortable enough to drive as long as you could possibly want.
