It might look the part of a racy sports car, but the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL-class is really more of a grand touring car with a fashion-forward wardrobe. Handling is sharp enough to be entertaining, but the SL-class's party piece is its thundering V-8 powertrain. The SL-class's cabin has enough space for two adults and includes plenty of luxury and tech features, including a cool 11.9-inch infotainment display that can adjust its position to better meet the drivers line of sight. A host of luxury features come standard on all SL models, including massaging seats, a head-up display, and a Burmester stereo system. We'd go with the more expensive SL63 to unlock the twin-turbo V-8's maximum power figure. We put the SL63 on the track during our Lightning Lap competition, where it proved shockingly capable. In our testing, the SL63 roared to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds accompanied by a baritone exhaust burble. . The interior is plenty luxurious and Mercedes's novel Airscarf feature, which gently blows warm air on the driver and front passenger's neck during cold weather drives, is standard. The Mercedes-Benz AMG SL wears slick lines outside and a high-fashion cabin inside. Mercedes-Benzs top droptop can scoot. Fast, yes, but the SL can also rip down a winding road. Rear-axle steering turns the back wheels up to 2.5 degrees to aid stability at speed and to make the car feel more buttoned-down on a winding road. The SL is best appreciated with the optional (on the SL 55; standard on the SL 63) linked hydraulic dampers, which push down on one side and up on the opposite to keep the car positively flat. A side benefit is that the system can also lift the cars front end by 1.2 inches to clear driveways.
